November 2023 kam es bei Sound Resource Solutions zu einem gro\u00dfen Chemiebrand.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Zu den in dieser Anlage gelagerten Chemikalien geh\u00f6rten unter anderem Phosphors\u00e4ure und Xylol.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Das Feuer hatte Auswirkungen auf die Kohlendioxidemissionen und gibt Anlass zur Sorge um die \u00f6ffentliche Gesundheit.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Am Morgen des 8. November 2023 hob ein Gabelstapler einen undichten Chemikalientank in einer Chemikalienlager-\/Transportanlage in Shepherd, Texas, an. Beim Anheben des Tanks brach rasch ein Feuer aus; der sich ausbreitende Brand f\u00fchrte zur Verbrennung zahlreicher in der Anlage gelagerter Chemikalien. Rauchschwaden vom Brandherd drangen in die umliegenden Gebiete vor, was zu Ausgangssperren, Evakuierungen von Schulen und vollst\u00e4ndigen Verkehrssperrungen f\u00fchrte. Obwohl unklar ist, ob bei dem Vorfall Phosphors\u00e4ure verbrannt wurde, gibt es dennoch einige wichtige Punkte zu beachten. Laut dem Merkblatt des Bundesstaates New Jersey zu gef\u00e4hrlichen Stoffen ist Phosphors\u00e4ure allein nicht brennbar. Kommt diese Substanz jedoch mit Metallen in Kontakt, kann entz\u00fcndbares Wasserstoffgas entstehen. Kommt es dennoch zu einem Brand, bilden sich giftige Phosphoroxide. Diese Gase sind giftig und k\u00f6nnen die \u00f6ffentliche Gesundheit stark beeintr\u00e4chtigen. Gl\u00fccklicherweise konnten die Instrumente, die diesen Vorfall \u00fcberwachten, keine Spuren dieser Gase nachweisen. Es ist jedoch unerl\u00e4sslich, die Fernerkundungsdaten weiterhin zu analysieren, um sicherzustellen, dass keine zuk\u00fcnftigen Sch\u00e4den an Land, Wasser oder Luft entstehen. Im Bewusstsein der Bedeutung von Nachhaltigkeit \u00fcberwacht Floodlight st\u00e4ndig die Risiken, die giftige Chemikalien f\u00fcr Bev\u00f6lkerung und Ressourcen darstellen k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Neben den S\u00e4uren wurden auch viele Aromaten, darunter Xylol und Aceton, sowie Alkohole, darunter Isopropylalkohol, Methan und Hexan, gefunden. Diese chemischen Gruppen sind wichtig, da bei einer Verbrennung mit Sauerstoff Kohlendioxid (CO<sub>2<\/sub>) wird hergestellt.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"936\" height=\"790\" class=\"wp-image-7025\" src=\"https:\/\/floodlightinvest.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/houston2.png\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/floodlightglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/houston2.png 936w, https:\/\/floodlightglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/houston2-300x253.png 300w, https:\/\/floodlightglobal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/houston2-768x648.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 936px) 100vw, 936px\" \/><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Aus dem SAGE-Produkt von Floodlight wurden die Scope-1-Emissionen an diesem Standort f\u00fcr das Jahr 2021 auf etwa 12,5 Tonnen CO berechnet.<sub>2<\/sub>Die resultierende Intensit\u00e4t wird mit 0,000013 Tonnen CO angegeben.<sub>2<\/sub> pro Quadratfu\u00df. Diese Intensit\u00e4t erscheint zun\u00e4chst erstaunlich niedrig, ergibt aber im Kontext mehr Sinn. Erstens besteht der Standort gr\u00f6\u00dftenteils aus Gr\u00fcnfl\u00e4chen, und in der Umgebung gibt es noch mehr Wald. Zweitens umfassten die Hauptt\u00e4tigkeiten vor dem Brand die Lagerung und Verteilung der Chemikalien. Diese Prozesse sind nicht sehr kohlenstoffintensiv, insbesondere im Vergleich zu anderen chemischen Industrien. Es w\u00e4re zu erwarten, dass diese Anlage einen gr\u00f6\u00dferen Scope-3-Fu\u00dfabdruck aufweist, der durch die Herstellung der chemischen Rohkomponenten und die Weiterverwendung der Mischprodukte entsteht.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Als der Brand ausbrach, wurde ein Teil der Emissionen, die im Scope-3-Fu\u00dfabdruck (Endverbrauch der Chemikalien) enthalten gewesen w\u00e4ren, schnell zu Scope-1-Emissionen. Obwohl einige Produkte dieses Unternehmens als Brennstoff gelandet w\u00e4ren, setzt die direkte und unkontrollierte Verbrennung der Aromaten und Alkohole enorme Mengen an CO frei.<sub>2<\/sub>Dieser pl\u00f6tzliche Zustrom von Kohlenstoff in die Atmosph\u00e4re kann weiter zum Klimawandel beitragen.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Laut der Coalition to Prevent Chemical Disasters kam es im vergangenen Jahr zu mehr als 200 Freisetzungen giftiger Chemikalien, Br\u00e4nden und Explosionen. Aufgrund ihrer H\u00e4ufigkeit sind diese Ereignisse bei der Berichterstattung \u00fcber Treibhausgas- und andere Giftgasemissionen viel zu wichtig, um sie zu \u00fcbersehen.
